18th August 2026 Windsurfing: Levington Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: 5/20 Surf / Sea State: smooth and river chop Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: 18.18 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 22.50 mile (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Tuesday 18th August – Windsurf *** River Orwell at Levington – mainly cloudy. Foil – 18.18 knot max, 16.96 knot ave., 12.76 knot hour, 16.31 knot mile, 55.82 km., 13.59 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Sailworks Flyer 8.2m. We had rain in Felixstowe for the second night running and now have half a butt of water, before going windsurfing I quickly took a couple of pics in the garden to send to the TV weather and was chuffed when About Anglia’s Chris Page used one of our lovely garden in full bloom, my first pic on the ITV since 6th July! The forecast looked promising today with 15 knits from the west, even though it was low water at 9.30 I still headed over to Levington fairly early arriving at the marina at 10 where it was still pretty cloudy but there looked like there might be enough for my new 8.2? Launching from the marina entrance at 10.45 as the tide was very low I sailed straight out to deep water but the wind did not play ball, I did get up and flying briefly a few times but I spent a lot of time floundering back and forth, not much fun with a heavy big sail and the wide boom plays havoc with my old hands! I was out ages as the wind got lighter and lighter so I headed in for a snack and wait awhile to see if the wind filed in? I had just made up my mind to call it a day and had taken my foil off my board when two wingers arrived and the sun made an appearance and the breeze picked up so I put my foil back together and headed out and was quickly up and flying. It was now pretty breezy on the corner so I headed down towards the docks where the water smoother even if the wind was gusty but it was good fun doing long runs with the yachts and dinghies, I chose to do long runs because of the big sail to keep the turning down to a minimum as its tiring gybing ! I had a decent hour plus which improved a one star session to a three! PS - I nearly forgot the highlight of the session when I spotted a pair of harbour porpoises which I actually saw a couple of times:) Photo Album here |
